Pomme, apprentie coiffeuse, est une jeune femme très réservée et silencieuse. Son amie Marylène, très expansive, l'emmène à Cabourg pour quelques jours de vacances. Pomme y rencontre François,un jeune étudiant brillant mais aussi timide qu'elle. Ils rentrent à Paris et s'aiment, mais le fossé qui les sépare socialement aura raison de leur amour. Pomme s'efface, toujours en silence, et finit dans un hôpital psychiatrique.
